College planning can be overwhelming for both parents and students. At Laura George Consulting, we work with families to guide them through this journey from start to finish. We provide high school entrance exam tutoring, high school and college planning consultations, and customized ACT and SAT tutoring. We also help students tap into their unique, authentic voices when writing college essays and provide assistance with the entire application process. We provide support and guidance as families navigate the testing and college admission processes, and our goal is to empower students to realize their full potential and achieve acceptance to their ideal colleges.

*We did SAT prep with LGC for our student the summer before junior year - summer of 2019, which is the absolute must time to do it because they will be so busy once junior year starts and to finish the tutoring the summer before is a lifesaver and also relieves so much of the stress during junior year. Our student said often during junior year, how awesome it was that the tutoring was all done the summer before. And our student also did 1-1 Common App Essay Writing service with Laura the summer before senior year - summer of 2020 during pandemic over Zoom. *Laura is a great business owner and an advocate for students/families, as she is a mom of school age kids herself. I had done a lot of research into test prep places - they ranged from good to bad. So by the time I came to meet with Laura, I knew what I needed to ask for and she happily provided me with everything that a good business should - tutor resumes, references, safe, clean and comfortable setting for tutoring sessions for students, etc. She was upfront with pricing and always recommended to start with basics because I can always add on at same hourly rate later, which I really appreciated each time. She was always reachable and got back to me in a timely manner. *Our student did increase SAT/ACT score enough to make a difference. Originally, was going to take another ACT in spring of 2020 but with all the cancellations due to pandemic, our student ended up deciding not to take another ACT test but was satisfied with the score from 12/2019 and to apply with that. That was another unforeseen benefit of having finished tutoring summer before junior year: being able to take SAT/ACT early in fall semester. So our student had 2 SAT scores and 1 ACT score by 12/2020 and we were spared all the stress and challenges of trying to take the tests during the pandemic. Very thankful for that. *One of the best features of LGC for us, is the Parent Liaison. Laura is very astute to have this service set up for students/families. You are assigned a liaison and that person is your go-to for everything. Sometimes as the parent, what I need is different from what our student needs. And the liaison is able to help for both needs. Our liaison is Lavinia and she has now been helping us for 1.5+ years and she is wonderful! Responsive, compassionate, thoughtful, honest and direct on pricing - which is very important to me. She has been through everything with us and that base is very valuable. We don’t get bounced around from Billing to Owner to Tutor, to Sales, whoever, in the office but we talk to just Lavinia and she streamlines all our communication and gets us the help we need. She makes my life easier. Lavinia is also a parent of kids going through the same thing and understands what students/families are all going through first hand. *Pricing is comparable to other reputable places in the Northshore. I would say more in the middle than on the higher side: fair pricing. That is not to say it is inexpensive but it was worth the cost for us. *Here is our student’s feedback: tutors were all nice and good at teaching. And having that tutoring schedule was so helpful to me because of the accountability and left on my own, I probably would not have done the test prep work myself much. And also very helpful to work on the Common App Essay with Laura the summer before senior year because my essay was done going into senior year which is a huge load off. *Laura will accommodate any tutor request as much as she can and work with you. That is the thing - Laura and Parent Liaison will work with you to give you what you need or closest they can manage. Which is all I can ask for. *We plan to go with LGC for our younger students, too. I highly recommend LGC.”

Laura and her team have been wonderful to work with on so many different fronts. For example, they matched my son with... excellent tutors for SAT prep (one for math and one for reading/language arts) that really worked well with him and helped him to improve his scores. Did my son complete ALL of his homework assignments for the tutors on schedule? No, but the tutors motivated him to work much harder on his prep than he would have otherwise and they gave him excellent feedback and tips. Also, Laura herself did an amazing job working with both of my children to push them to develop individualized essays for the Common App that truly showcased their backgrounds and who they are as a person. She asked them thoughtful and probing questions that helped them develop essays, written entirely in their own words, that really reflected them. They brainstormed essay topics, reviewed drafts and discussed how they might be improved during one-on-one video chat sessions. Karen’s feedback boosted my daughter’s confidence, but she never felt that her work was being done for her. For applications with multiple essays, the brainstorming helped to come up with topics that enabled my daughter to create a well-rounded, multidimensional portfolio. This is a highly attentive and professional group of people who we found to be the most impressive in the field (and as an attorney, I'm picky!). Our experience was that everything is 100% customized to your child. Our child felt supported and encouraged, and found the tutors engaging and fun. As a result, our high school student's ACT score improved by 5 points-- for which I give tremendous credit to Laura's methodology and the skills of her tutors. If you like outstanding customer service, you will love the parent liaisons; their communication and above-and-beyond service is rare to see these days.
